Naarden was one of the last fortresses in the Netherlands which remained in French hands throughout
November 1813 and May 1814 , until well after Napoleon’s
abdication. Only on 12 May did the town’s commander General de Brigade
Jacque de la Porte, whose seconde-in-commando Colonel Jean Falba was the
infamous commander of the troups for the Worden Massacre on 25 Novemver 1813,
finally surrender the fortress.
